Today we had an amazing day – we went to the Cherry Festival in Fiksburg – I have to be honest I was disappointed in the festival. I was hoping there would be more cherry products like Cherry Tarts etc – there was Cherry liquer and Cherry Sauce but that was about it – there were more cheap Chinese nonsense than anything else.

On our way home we stopped at two really nice places – the first one was the Rose House where we had a really scrumptious lunch. It has a lovely view of the mountains.

We then went to Meiringskloof to see the Holkraans Cave. This was super cool it is a massive cave where they hid the entire population of women and children from Fouriesburg with their cattle in this cave during the Anglo Boer War. It is virtually undetectable from anywhere. It is HUGE!! Mother nature has some amazing features – I really loved standing in this huge cave imagining approximately 1500 people living in the cave. I really should brush up on my history – I will welcome any facts anyone can give me regarding this cave.

If you are in the Free State area – definitely worth a visit.
