This ceremony was a feast for the eyes – what an amazingly spectacular event. This one is called the Hurdee – a ceremony whereby the bride has a paste of tumeric powder rubbed all over her body by loved ones. This gives the bride a glow and in previous times also doubled as a disinfectant. Deepak, the groom, underwent a similar process at a separate ceremony with his family, but at the same time of day.
Suvashna wore two sari’s on the day – the first was a beautiful turquoise blue which she wore for the first part of the evening where they honour the gods by digging a hole outside and burying gold and other significant items. While there, we found a fabulous wall to use as a back drop for her bridal portraits and she looked too beautiful.
Her second sari was yellow so that it would not appear too badly stained by the yellow tumeric paste.
I would like to thank the family for including me as one of their own. It is the most amazing feeling to be included into such a special, loving caring family on such a spiritual day.
