When I first met Luke and Alisje at Vovo Telos to discuss their wedding, they told me they wanted to have a wedding which was most importantly fun. When we met to do their engagement shoot – I really realised how these high school sweethearts were more excited about being married than their wedding. Being married myself I think it is crucial to look beyond the wedding to your future as husband and wife (as the aim of a wedding is to get married). I had never shot a wedding at the Bridge before and was so excited to explore a beautiful new venue.
When I arrived, Alisje was the picture of a perfectly calm and relaxed bride. She was always up to do anything I asked her – including dressing up outside and hiking through the veld (see later). The ceremony was held under beautiful big trees overlooking the river. I loved the long bridge that the bride walks down to reach the aisle J. Alisje is from an Afrikaans family and Luke is from an English family – during their vows they both said their vows in their spouses language to show everyone how they have embraced their family, what an amazing gesture.
After the ceremony the couple had organised colourful lollipops, slush puppies, popcorn and the most enormous candy floss sticks as well as games which included giant jenga, giant snakes and ladders and pick up sticks. The guests had a great time playing with all the different games while we went to do the couple shoot (equipped with all the fun props J). When I look back to the first meeting they definitely achieved their goal of having a fun wedding.
During the reception I had a little tear in my eye as I watched the pride and love Alisjes dad had for his daughter as they danced around the dance floor to Butterfly Kisses – its always special seeing families like Luke and Alisjes who are so close.
Thank you to both of you for allowing me to be apart of your special day. I loved every minute.
Any ideas to what song everyone is dancing to???
