I have just had the most amazing weekend. My husband and I celebrate our one year wedding anniversary on the 1st of May. In light of this occasion we decided to take a trip to Mpumlanga and see my family for two days and then we headed off to Hazyview where we stayed at a wonderful self catering place called Nwanakalile Lodge. We decided to the tourist thing and we headed off to Bourke’s Luck Potholes near Graskop. This is a definite must see. These potholes are incredible – its amazing how one little stone going round and round in a circle can create these huge structures.
We took a day trip into Kruger Park. There is something so breath taking about the Kruger. The dirt roads along the river – spotting majestic animals, we went to a bird hide called Lake Panic (the name makes me chuckle) and we saw Goliath Heron ( They are HUGE birds – incredibly impressive) and hippos making a serious noise.
Our accommodation was right next to the Sabie Coffee Roastery – so being the coffee addict I am we had to go and sit in their beautiful garden and drink their life changing coffee. The farm is situated on the confluence of 3 rivers – The Sabie, Mac Mac and Sabaan River. When we had finished our yummy coffee we went for a walk along the river and they had a gorgeous Staffie who wanted us to throw sticks for her. What we weren’t expecting was where she wanted us to throw them – into the river. This dog had a magnificent time jumping into the river to fetch the stick – my husband was ready to put her in the car and take her home.
We finished our wonderful weekend away with drinks and snacks on the rock where we got married exactly one year ago. It was a magical evening with close friends and remembering the special day one year back. All in all a perfect weekend.
