Lifestyle – Food & Products

I am a huge fan of online shopping. I love the convenience and diversity that the different shops offer all from your arm chair. One of the most beautiful online shops in South Africa is Little Honeypot. A place where beautiful, good quality products are sold. I collaborated with Heleen from Little Honeypot to use some of her products for a tea party. I love her tea cups with the heart saucer and the heart bowls are so striking and elegant. Should you wish to find the recipe for the Malva Pudding hop on over to the Lovilee blog....

Shop – The Bakery | Kenton on Sea

On our road trip in September one of our stop off was in Kenton on Sea. I have never been there before but what a magical little place. While we were there we explored the area, the beaches and the little town and soon discovered a new little Bakery called The Bakery. This little shop is run by the wonderful Kerryn and Mark who have moved from JHB to Kenton to run this little dream. What a gorgeous little shop – it sells the most wonderful crusty yet soft, tasty ciabattas. There is no consistent menu – everyday there is something new depending on the seasons and the inspiration. Not...

Event – Bub Hub Gathering | Broadacres

The Bub Hub in Broadacres had a meet up with all their service providers one sunny winters morning. It was so lovely to meet everyone and find out what everyone does and how they do it. There are childrens yoga instructors, pilates instructors, CPR instructors and doula’s to name a few. It was a fabulous afternoon. Bub Hub had also got new products in which I was able to photograph for the girls....

Shop – The Citizen Cafe | Blairgowrie

Coffee shop decor

Coffee shops are by far one of my favourite things – so when one opens up a stones throw from my house – I am happy. The Citizen Cafe is a vibey, alternative, modern, retro yet warm and homely coffee shop where you can work all day enjoying strong, hot cappuccinos, free wifi and music such as Florence and the Machines playing through a vintage record player. My best part about this coffee shop is how everyone feels like family. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and they are always eager to hear your latest news about your adventures....

Shop – Living Room | Maboneng

Nature in the city

Ross and I love exploring Johannesburg – there is so much to see and do. Maboneng is one of my favourite districts – the market on main on a Sunday is one of my favourites. We did the art walk tour the other day (see the photos here) and have done a few photoshoots in the area. Ross came across this bar while researching Rooftop bars in Johannesburg. It is called the Living Room.  This bar is amazing – a real natural sanctuary in the concrete garden. The gardens are made and maintained by Tiakaya. Shop – Anatomy Design | 44 Stanley Avenue

Circular mirror

Some shops are simply wonderful enough to “live in”. Anatomy Design in 44 Stanley in Johannesburg falls into this category. Not only are the pieces they sell refreshing and wonderfully curated, but their displays are gorgeous and inviting too. Anatomy Design, owned by Andrea Kleinloog and Megan Hesse, initially started as an interior design studio but the duo soon tried their hand at product design. Even though the Anatomy Design shop was opened just last November, they’ve already moved into their second space, a gorgeous “glass box” that used to be part of the 44 Stanley Entrance. Be sure to pop in at their wonderful space at 44 Stanley or visit their online shop here....

Shop – Egoly Agency | Fruit & Vegetable Market City Deep

Apples in the Market

When we visited Paris 2 years ago one of my favourite things was the Fruit and Vegetable market that opened on a Saturday morning. Last week Thursday I had the honour of going to the BIGGEST fruit and vegetable market in Johannesburg to capture the energy and dynamic that occurs in the early morning of this incredible hub. The Egoly agency invited me to come capture their team in action. This agency is a relatively new company, being only 2 years old, however they are already running with the top dogs. I arrived at 5am and the energy was electric – forklifts moving produce all over the show, buyers ordering...

Shop – Vendange | 44 Stanley Avenue

Herb boxes

Johannesburg always fascinates me with its variety of shops and centres. One of my favourite places is 44 Stanley Avenue – a retreat from the normal to find beautiful different and unique shops. Vendange is such a shop – it is a French inspired shop filled with beautiful products. They stock food, wine and olive oil as well as many other decor items. It is also home to the Boutique Vineyards Trudeau cheese and baguette board range as well as carefully sourced glassware, ceramics, olive oil, Champagne buckets, wooden wine crates, kitchen tables and other products that are useful for entertaining and add style and beauty to any entertaining area. My...

Shop – The Ceramic Factory | Linden

Linden is an up and coming suburb in Johannesburg. There are some amazing shops and restaurants in the area. While taking a stroll around this suburb I stumbled across this beautiful shop called Ceramic Factory. The styling of this shop is pure, simple and tasteful. The use of wood, white and proteas made for a calming, happy and light environment – perfectly show casing their wonderful products. It is amazing how less is more when it comes to decor and styling. They sell all things ceramic including great grey rabbits, little cameras, royal vases and much much more. I could have bought a lot in this shop and plan to...

Shops – Impala Fruit and Vegetable | Craighall Park

Strawberry Boxes

There is the best fruit, vegetable and flower shop over the road from my flat in Craighall Park. It’s one of those shops that makes my suburb the special place that it is. This wonderfully colourful store is a real family affair – owned and run by two brothers, their mom helps out at the tills and their wives keep things sailing smoothly. Their dad even pops in from time to time to check all is in order! The business is so much a part of their family that the love and care becomes a part of every family who shops there. On a Saturday morning the brothers go to a...

Shop – Wolves Cafe | Illovo

Gauteng, Lifestyle, Magazine, Shop, Restaurant, Photo, photographer

I always have the biggest admiration for people who follow their dreams and make them happen. Wolves is no exception. This beautiful coffee shop is located on Corlett drive and is the dream of an amazing woman Angie. The shop sells the most scrumptious food (especially their world renowned Red Velvet Cupcakes), they have free wifi and merchandise that you can buy. I love the warm homely feel of this shop, the waiters are always so friendly (plus they have the coolest shirts). Wolves is open 7 days a week – so there is no excuse not to go and pop in....

Shop – Anatomy Design Launch | 44 Stanley Avenue

Tonight Carla (from the Pretty Blog) and I went to the Anatomy Design Launch held at their beautiful shop in 44 Stanley Avenue. I had the pleasure of photographing their shop a few weeks ago – here is the link of the images. They have the most remarkable stock in their store – my favourite being the ceramic birds that sit on the edge of containers. I love how these two woman have invested their love and soul into their shop which truly reflects their passion and determination to succeed. The scrumptious food was supplied by Salvation Cafe with brilliant live music by Little Black Hats (I would love to listen them more often). Thank you...

Shop – The Whippet | Linden

Magazine Photographer, Johannesburg, Lifestyle, On Location, Cape Town, Coffee Shop, The Whippet, Linden

I stumbled upon this coffee shop on Facebook – I looked at their website and discovered it was just up the road. I was so excited to go and try a new coffee shop (in case you don’t know – I love coffee). So on Monday morning off I went to discover the gem known as The Whippet in Linden. I was in love from the minute I saw the minimalistic decor of grey and white with exposed brick walls and the minimal decor. They have Free Wifi – so like any other photographer/entrepreneur I stayed for 5 hours drinking coffee, working and eating their scrumptious food. I spoke to the owner...

Location – Burnside Restaurant | Craighall

Best Restaurant, Craighall, Johannesburg, Outdoor, Northern Suburbs, Country, Photo, Food, Photographer, Magazine, Freelance

Hubby and I love trying different and unique places in Jo’burg. Whether its coffee shops, restaurants, markets or galleries, our city has so much to offer if you are just willing to look! One of these gems is Burnside Cafe, a restaurant in Craighall, on Burnside Avenue. Being in a revamp of the property’s original house, you sit out on the almost “farmstyle” verandah, where you can take in the view of a perfectly manicured garden while enjoying their diverse selection of meals and confectionery. After you’ve had your fill you can take an amble through their small, but well stocked, art gallery which promotes local artists. Burnside is a...
