Red City Bus

On Saturday morning I joined the Cameraland team and a whole bunch of incredibly talented people on the Red City Bus tour sponsored by Cape Town. What a joy, riding on an open bus on the perfect summers morning through beautiful Cape Town. Cameraland arranged this event for their loyal Canon customers and influencers. I have always used Canon and I love them. We all met at the Cameraland store (opposite the Red City Bust) where I met some incredibly inspirational people who were joining the adventure. As the quote says – it’s not about the destination it’s about the journey. The scenery spotted from the rooftop of the bus...

Styled Shoot – Consol Glass | Christmas

DIY Christmas Glass Bottle Ideas

A few weeks ago – Kari from the Lovilee blog and I met up to capture Christmas themed gifts and ideas using Consol bottles. I was in my element here coming up with different ideas to use Consols beautiful products. Kari made a beautiful “Christmas in a Bottle” – filled with Christmas tags, shiny baubles, straws and decor items. I used plastic animals in a variety of things including sticking them onto the bottles and using them as props as well as baking mince pies and even a pie in a bottle. Liezel from Match Set Love helped see my vision of using deer heads as a common theme by...

Travel – Satara | Kruger Park

Herd of Buffalo

A bucket list is a funny concept – I often wonder how many times people really go out of their way to cross things off their buckets lists instead of just adding things onto it continuously. This holiday was something my grandfather had on his bucket list – his whole family in the Kruger Park. When I mean the whole family there were cousins from Australia and family from Scotland and relatives from Cape Town. The last time I saw two of my cousins was when I was 10 – so this holiday I had time to rekindle and reform a special friendship with 2 very special people who are...

Travel – Steam Train | Cullinan

Travel, Things to do, Gauteng, Free Lance, Photographer, Photo, Exploring

A few weeks ago on a cold winter morning we pulled into the Pretoria train station to see a thick black cloud billowing out of a beautiful old steam train that looks as shiny and new as it did way back when. The team have restored this train to its former glory equipped with green leather seats, copper finishes and wooden window frames. The tin coffee container filled with hot comforting liquid to fuel the bodies of the men shoveling in the coal, all in all a blast into history. In celebration of my father in laws 60th my sister in law spoilt the family by taking us all on...

Travel – 2nd Anniversary | Paternoster

Paternoster, Western Cape, South Africa, Things to do, Photo, Photographer, Beach

This year Ross and I celebrated TWO years of marriage. 3 years when we were deciding on when we should get married we chose the 1st of May as it was/is a public holiday (so we could have the day off 🙂 ). Last year we explored Mpumalanga, click here to see our adventure. This year we went to the beautiful little coastal town of Paternoster. A few years ago while staying in Cape Town we took a mini road trip to have lunch there and I just fell in love with this town. All the houses are white with blue accents, I felt like I was living in a Mediterranean coastal village. When...

Personal – A 60th celebration

Kwa Matau Accomodation, Location, Photographs, Photo, Bushveld, Family time, Family Photographer

Family is the most incredible gift. They are always there when you need them and love you through everything. Last weekend was a family weekend away to celebrate my father in laws 60th birthday. We spent the weekend at a farm called Kwa Matau outside Rustenburg eating amazing food, laughing lots and overall having a lovely time. Happy Birthday Steve!!!...

Personal – Watching it grow

Personal Growth, Photographers Story, Chillies, Green Beans, pepper, tomato

Ever had one of those hours, days or months where you analyse and wonder why you are doing what you are doing? Well that has been me recently. I started my photography business just over a year ago full time and I wanted to photograph everything and everyone. I wanted to busy all the time (I am one of those annoying people who cant sit still). There have been some insanely busy times as well as some quiet times. It is in these quiet times that I struggle to understand the industry and my potential within it. This morning I went into my garden and looked at all my vegetables...

Personal – Coffee Tasting | Bean There

44 Stanley Avenue, Things to do, Photo, Date Night Ideas, Gauteng, Event, Photographer

Last night was date night for Ross and I – on New Years day in 2011 we decided to have one date night a week where we would do different things. We have managed to maintain this tradition 🙂 I love a good deal and when I saw this coffee event on Citymob – I bought it immediately. It was a “Coffee Cupping” event at Bean There in 44 Stanley Avenue. I had no idea what “Coffee Cupping” meant but I decided if it had to do with coffee it was good for me 😉 We had a lovely dinner under the trees at 44 Stanley Avenue at the restaurant...

Personal – Midlands Adventure | Kwazulu Natal

Cows, Photo, country side, scenery, photography, lifestyle, event, south africa

In December Ross and I went to the Midlands for a couple of days to be with special varsity friends for their wedding. We stayed a day on either side of their wedding so we could explore the area. When we arrived we went and had a very yummy lunch at St. Ives – it was a very HOT day so it was so lovely to sit under the misters looking at the dam drinking Rock Shandys. While we were there we stayed at Twin Pools Lodge – very comfortable with beautiful views. For those of you who don’t know already I have an obsession to Coffee! When I saw...

Personal – Skydive | Carltonville

Lifestyle, Event, Photographer, Johannesburg, Sky Diving, Carltonville, Birthday, Fun

Last Saturday a bunch of friends took a mini road trip to Carltonville to throw 3 boys out of a plane. Why? Last year a bunch of friends clubbed together to buy our dear friend Blake a birthday present – a Skydive (I promise we like him even though we threw him out of plane) Two of the boys decided it wasn’t fair to let Blake do this on his own so Mat and Ross decided to join him on his “high flying” adventure. I wanted to go up with them but I decided to let the Top Gun Trio go up and I stayed on land and take some...

Personal – Christmas Day | Johannesburg

Christmas Day Table decor, old books, vintage, earth, rustic, white tablecloth, family, photo

Finally, a Christmas in our own house! It’s only taken 5 years. We hosted the Dold’s and Joyce’s (those in the country) for a big Christmas lunch at Sun Valley Lodge. It was so nice to set up the tree, see all the pressies underneath and then get going in the kitchen. I prepared the gammon while Ross attempted the Turken (a turducken minus the duck) which worked out pretty well on the Weber, if you ignore the presentation! The rain (again) tried its hardest to spoil the day, but it could not put a dampener on the festivities. We made short work of the pile of gifts under the...

Personal – Ek Se Tour | Soweto

Orlando Towers, Bungee Jump, Soweto, To do, Photo, photographer, Holiday

A while ago my sister in law who works for The Awethu Project asked me to come with her on a Soweto tour run by Ek Se Tours. I love living in South Africa it has a large and diverse history especially in Johannesburg. This was an amazing tour covering Constitution hill, Orlando Towers, Kliptown, Vilikazi. Sometimes there’s so much to see and do, right on your doorstep in Jozi! I recently went on a tour of Soweto, organised and run by a local entrepreneur. Lesika customs every tour to suit the group he’s guiding, whether they’re interested in sport, arts or history… there’s so much  for tourists to learn...

Personal – Weekend Away | Clarens

Windmill, Karoo,Lifestyle, Photographer, South Africa, Photo, Magazine, Freelance

Last weekend, Hubby and I took our parents to the Eastern Free State for a little getaway to thank you for their time, effort, and financial support put into our wedding last year. It’s been a long time coming, and we’ve both wanted to see that part of the country, so we used the Fickburg Cherry Festival as a good reason to head to the Eastern Highlands, just north of the Lesotho border. On Friday evening, we were greeted by an impressive electrical storm over the Maluti Mountains in Clarens, but that lead to a beautiful hot and clear Saturday. As well as being an area known for its Cherry’s this...

Personal – Penryn Christmas Market | Nelspruit

Penryn, Photo, Displays, Snowflakes, Wood, Image, Nelspruit, things to do, fun

This last week Penryn School hosted their annual Christmas Market. This year the ladies made a beautiful simple winter wonderland with gorgeous wooden snowflakes hanging from the ceiling and wooden palletes for display counters. Thank you to the Penryn moms for all the effort they put into making the market such a success. Part of the decor was to fill wooden frames with toilet rolls – very clever....

Personal – “The Power of We” | Blog Action Day

The village safe haven, power of we, blog action day 2012

Once a year Blog Action Day urge bloggers to write about a specific theme. This year’s theme is “Power of We” When I saw this topic, I immediately thought it is a good opportunity to write about an organisation that I am involved with – The Village Safe Haven. As the name suggests, The Village is a safe haven for abused and abandoned children of all ages. It is a truly inspiring establishment with which to be associated. There are currently 23 children who live there, all from a variety of backgrounds – some were abandoned as babies, some have been abused and others orphaned. What makes this environment so homely and family...
